Q: How often will I meet with my therapist?
A: Most clients start with weekly sessions, then adjust frequency as they progress.

Q: Will therapy “fix” me?
A: Therapy isn’t about fixing; it’s about understanding yourself, building coping tools, and creating change that matters to you.

Q: How do I choose the right therapist?
A: You can review our clinician profiles, schedule a consult, and we’ll help match you with someone who fits your needs and preferences

Adolescent Therapy

Q: What age range do you work with?
A: We work with teens ages 13–17. For younger children, we can refer you to trusted child-focused providers.

Q: What concerns can therapy help my teen with?
A: Anxiety, depression, peer issues, school stress, family conflict, grief, identity exploration, and coping with life changes.

Q: Will I know everything my teen shares?
A: We balance confidentiality with parental involvement. We share safety concerns and key updates while giving your teen a safe space to open up.

Q: How do you engage shy or reluctant teens?
A: Often, it will take time to build comfort and trust with your teen. Our trained clinical staff are patient and willing to develop a therapeutic relationship with your teen. We also tailor sessions to your teen’s interests and comfort level and meet them where they are.

Trauma Therapy

Q: How do I know if I need trauma therapy?
A: You may benefit from trauma therapy if you’ve experienced distressing events and notice ongoing effects such as anxiety, nightmares, hypervigilance, difficulty trusting others, or emotional numbness.

Q: What approaches do you use?
A: Our therapists use evidence-based methods like Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), EMDR, IFS (Parts Work), and mindfulness-based techniques to help you heal in a safe, paced way.

Q: How long does trauma therapy take?
A: The timeline is unique for everyone. Some people work through a specific event in a few months, while others choose longer-term therapy for complex trauma.

Q: Will I have to talk about everything that happened?
A: We go at your pace. You control what you share, and we focus on helping you feel safe, grounded, and empowered.

Couples Therapy

Q: Do we need to be married to attend couples counseling?
A: Not at all. We work with couples in all stages—dating, engaged, married, or long-term partners.

Q: What issues can couples counseling help with?
A: Communication breakdowns, trust concerns, infidelity, parenting disagreements, intimacy challenges, or navigating life transitions together.

Q: What if my partner is hesitant?
A: It’s common for one partner to feel unsure. We create a non-judgmental space where both voices are heard and respected.

Q: How many sessions will we need?
A: Some couples notice improvements in just a few sessions, while others prefer ongoing support to maintain progress.

Christian Therapy

Q: What is Christian counseling?
A: Christian counseling integrates faith with professional mental health practices. We respect Scripture, prayer, and Christian values while using evidence-based techniques.

Q: Do I need to be a Christian to receive this type of counseling?
A: No. While this service is faith-based, we welcome anyone interested in exploring counseling through a Christian lens.

Q: What if I don't want Christian therapy?

A: At Anchored Soul, it is our professional and ethical obligation to provide the best treatment possible to patients, which means we will never force you to do anything you don't want to do. Christian Therapy is available upon request, and is not required when you are seen at this practice.

Q: Will you use prayer or Bible study in sessions?
A: If you wish. We tailor faith integration to your comfort level and preferences.

Q: Is Christian counseling different from regular therapy?
A: It offers the same professional standards and therapeutic methods, but incorporates Biblical principles and spiritual encouragement if desired.

Telehealth

Q: What is telehealth therapy?
A: Telehealth therapy is counseling provided through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You can meet with your therapist from home, work, or any private space in Connecticut.

Q: Is telehealth effective?
A: Yes. Research shows telehealth therapy is just as effective as in-person counseling for most concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship challenges.

Q: Do I need special equipment?
A: You just need a device with a camera and microphone (phone, tablet, or computer) and a stable internet connection.

Q: Is telehealth covered by insurance?
A: All of the Connecticut insurance plans we accept cover telehealth sessions at the same rate as in-person visits. We can help you verify your benefits before you begin.
